Position Summary

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining a safe, clean, and fully operational travel center and gas station. This position performs routine maintenance, repairs, preventative maintenance, and general upkeep of the facility, equipment, and surrounding grounds to ensure an excellent experience for customers and employees.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform routine inspections of the travel center, convenience store, fuel islands, restrooms, parking lots, and surrounding property.
• Complete general building maintenance, including painting, drywall repair, minor carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC maintenance within the scope of training.
• Repair and maintain doors, locks, shelving, fixtures, lighting, ceilings, flooring, and windows.
• Maintain fuel island equipment, including windshield washing stations, trash receptacles, air machines, and other customer amenities.
• Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergency repairs.
• Conduct preventative maintenance on equipment to minimize downtime.
• Maintain clean, safe, and attractive grounds by removing trash, snow, ice, weeds, and debris.
• Perform landscaping duties, including mowing, trimming, watering, and seasonal maintenance as assigned.
• Monitor and replenish maintenance supplies and notify management when inventory is low.
• Assist with equipment installations, remodeling projects, and facility improvements.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA safety standards, environmental regulations, fire safety requirements, and company policies.
• Report unsafe conditions, equipment malfunctions, and maintenance concerns to management immediately.
• Coordinate with outside contractors when necessary.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, and repairs.
• Assist other departments with operational needs as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• One to three years of general maintenance experience preferred.
• Working knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and general building maintenance.
• Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, ladders, and maintenance equipment.
• Basic troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
• Valid driver’s license may be required.

Physical Requirements

• Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
• Stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, climb, and reach throughout the workday.
• Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to climb ladders and work at elevated heights.
• Ability to safely use maintenance tools and equipment.
• Must be available to respond to maintenance emergencies as needed.

Work Environment

This position works in both indoor and outdoor environments, including convenience store areas, fuel islands, parking lots, mechanical rooms, and public restrooms. The Maintenance Technician may be exposed to varying temperatures, loud noise, cleaning chemicals, fuel vapors, dust, and moving equipment. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn as required.
