SUMMARY: The Tourism Director will be charged with developing an idea for an enormous potential of
sustainable tourism as part of the socio-economic development, poverty eradication looking into
resources nationally, locally and foreign to help manage environmental and cultural concerns
effectively within contributing to economic growth and promoting social development, and
recognizing contribution of sustainable tourism development. To provide a framework for the
Tourism Department to attract and promote tourism to the Pueblo of Taos.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Include the following and other duties as assigned.
• Management of overall Tourism Department and functions.
• Overseeing new development expansion of the Tourism Department.
• Responsible for the overall preparation of the budget and management of the budget.
• Interface with outside enterprises in the tourism industry.
• Represent and promote Taos Pueblo interests in the Taos tourism industry.
• Coordinate and design visitor educational materials.
• Prepare short and long term projections for the program needs and goals.
• Develop program and visitor packets.
• Coordinate program components to ensure an integrated effective system.
• Screen photography applications for applications for information and forward Governor’s
Office for final decision.
• Prepare and present annual goal and objectives to Tribal Government.
• Responsible for the employees of the Tourism Department.
• Revise, implement and maintain all Tourism Personnel Policies and Procedures.
• Maintain all Tourism Personnel files.
• Responsible for all Tourism Department employees (Gate Cashiers, Tour Guides, and
Parking Monitors).
• Create and implement a feasible marketing plan and component into Tourism for the best
use of marketing funds. Marketing includes: Planning and implementing sales, product
development, targeting new and existing markets.
• Creation and implementation of a Tourism Plan; maintenance.
• Create a vision on implementing effective tourism ideas like:
1. How to take measures to minimize the adverse socio-cultural and environmental impacts
of tourism, including the prevention of all forms of exploitation of the Tribal Cultural and
traditional preservation of cultural heritage by among other measures, promoting an

adequate regulatory framework;
2. To consider measures to promote the Taos Pueblo Sustainable Tourism Plan;
3. To support tourism-related local economic activities, including the promotion of
a. access to capital through micro-financing and marketing schemes for micro and
small enterprises;
4. To promote women’s empowerment and participation in tourism by facilitating their
a. access to financing schemes, including enterprise grants and loans;
5. To prepare a draft plan and conduct a regional study on the role of tourism in socio-
economic development, including a common approach to the monitoring of the
implementation of the Plan, for submission to and consideration by the Governors Office
and Tribal Council.
6. Crisis and risk management in tourism;
7. To promote regional cooperation and support sub-regional initiatives in the tourism
sector, in particular regional networking.
8. To continue cooperation with other tourism groups and/or other relevant organizations in
implementing the above activities;
9. Identify Tribal member students and/or members to work by enhancing their social skills
as been potential employees for the Tribe.
10. As the Tourism Director the objective, are the Tribes expected accomplishments, actions
and indicators of achievement. The “expected accomplishments” relate to the capacities
built, knowledge imparted, skills improved and networks developed by, and within the
“manageable interest” of, the organizations, and the “objectives” relate to what the Tribal
Council do with the increased capacities, knowledge, skills and networks. The “indicators
of achievement” are those of the wishes of the tribe.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
• Extensive knowledge of the Pueblo of Taos.
• Planning, analytical, and budgeting skills required.
• Forecasting Market trends.
• Excellent communication skills, including both written and oral.
• Computer Skills
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
• Accreditation from a College or University with an Associates Degree in related field and
/or Bachelor of Arts in Communication.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
• Must have good written and oral communications. Candidate must be highly computer
skilled in Web Design, Graphic Arts and Animation.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
• Must have a valid New Mexico Driver’s License.
